Duane Betts & His Friends With generationally-deep musical roots, Duane Betts & His Friends are a superhighway of talent driven by a powerful trifecta of forces: genetic predisposition, an innate passion to play and perform, and an intrinsic desire to honor and carry on their fathers’ legacies. Guitarist and singer-songwriter Duane Betts will be joined by drummer Cody Dickinson, guitarist Luther Dickinson, multi-instrumentalist Jackie Greene, bassist Berry Duane Oakley, guitarist Johnny Stachela, and vocalist Lamar Williams, Jr. for an evening of collaboration, inspiration and improvisation.
Duane Betts Guitarist, singer-songwriter, and part-time Jackson resident, Duane Betts, is a Sarasota, FL native and the son of famed guitarist and founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, Dickey Betts. Duane cut his teeth as a teen sitting in regularly with his Dad’s band before relocating to Southern California to pursue his own music career while also playing guitar alongside his father in Great Southern. He was a touring guitarist for Dawes, and a member of the brief supergroup, Jamtown, featuring G. Love, Donovan Frankenreiter, and Cisco Adler. Currently, Betts is prepping a second solo album, furthering his impassioned six-string stories reflecting a life and a history steeped in blues, rock, and country music tradition. www.duanebetts.com
Cody Dickinson Cody Dickinson is an award-winning musician who has earned four Grammy nominations as the drummer and founding member of the North Mississippi Allstars. He has also won multiple awards as co-creator and producer of the Take Me To The River film series. Cody continues to be one of the music industry’s premier drummers, demonstrated by his 2013 Blues Music Awards nomination in the “Best Instrumentalist/Drums” category. He has shared the stage with the likes of Robert Plant, The Allman Brothers Band, Mavis Staples, and Patty Griffin among others. Facebook: codydickinsonmusic
Luther Dickinson Luther Dickinson followed in his father’s footsteps, first earning a reputation as a fearsome session guitarist before breaking out internationally as a songwriter and performer with North Mississippi Allstars, the band he launched with his brother Cody in the late 90’s. They have toured the world, collaborated with legendary talent and have earned four Grammy nominations along the way. Luther’s improvisational prowess has been wowwing Jackson fans all the while with shows at The Mangy Moose, The Center, and JacksonHoleLive, to name just a few. www.lutherdickinson.com
Jackie Greene Americana and roots singer-songwriter Jackie Greene is a multi-instrumental artist who can croon over soulful piano ballads as much as he can shred a bluesy guitar solo. He recorded and toured with Trigger Hippy – his supergroup with Joan Osborne – and in the last four years performed over 300 shows of his own, all while continuing to record and release his solo work. Greene is a frequent member of Phil Lesh & Friends, and sits in with countless other artists including Tedeschi Trucks Band, Gov’t Mule, North Mississippi Allstars, Amy Helm, Steve Earle, and Bob Weir. www.jackiegreene.com
Berry Duane Oakley Growing up surrounded by a familial community of noteworthy and legendary talent in Los Angeles, bassist Berry Duane Oakley developed a deeply ingrained love for music. As the son of The Allman Brothers Band’s original bass player, the late Raymond Berry Oakley, and with stepfather Chuck Negron (Three Dog Night) and godfather Robby Krieger (The Doors), Oakley’s musical calling seemed preordained. His first taste of major touring came as a teenager during The Allman Brothers Band’s 1989 Dreams tour. Since then, Oakley has sat in and worked with many Rock and Roll Hall of Famers. Johnny Stachela Johnny Stachela is an acclaimed guitarist and singer-songwriter. A charter member of The Allman Betts Band, Stachela performed on its 2019 debut LP, Down to the River, and their 2020 follow-up, Bless Your Heart. In 2022, he turned to writing, performing, and production work with Duane Betts for Betts’ second solo album. He has toured the US and Europe extensively and continues to brandish a reputation as one of the more highly respected guitarists in modern blues and rock. www.johnnystachela.com
Lamar Williams, Jr. Lamar Williams Jr. proudly carries his musical torch in honor of his father, Lamar Williams, the performer and bassist of The Allman Brothers Band and Sea Level. Lamar was born in Macon, GA and began his music career singing in churches and at school functions, just like his father and his grandfather before him. His career as a vocalist has bloomed independently with the help of friends and advisors that heard him sing over the years. Lamar has sat in with The Allman Brothers Band and Oteil and Friends, recently cut an album with The New Mastersounds, and is currently the lead singer of Les Brers. www.lamarwilliamsjr.com
ADDED: Nicki Bluhm A San Franciscan now calling Tennessee home, Nicki Bluhm possesses a modern, clear-eyed perspective that grabs the heart and keeps you holding on to every word. Bluhm hit the national circuit with Nicki Bluhm and The Gramblers. In 2017, she made the decision to leave California to forge a career as a solo artist in Nashville. Her ensuing solo album, To Rise You Gotta Fall, plumbed the depths of hard goodbyes and hopeful beginnings. Her fresh release, Avondale Drive, is a masterful exploration of what it means to be fully yourself, rather than a vessel for the expectations of others. Following appearances and collaborations with artists such as Phil Lesh, Dawes, The Band of Heathens, Little Feat, and The Infamous Stringdusters, Bluhm’s creative confidence is well-won, and her authentic voice and songwriting continue to steal our hearts.
