PRESS RELEASE: Snow King Mountain Resort Begins Planning Process For Phase Two of Master Development Plan

Things to do in Jackson Hole

Jackson WY (July 20, 2015) – Snow King Mountain Resort (SKMR) will appear before the Jackson Town Council on July 20th, 2015 to inform them of the intention to begin the USFS planning process for Phase Two of the previously approved Snow King 2014 Master Development Plan (MDP).

The planning process will include several elements of the approved MDP. These include a replacement of the existing Summit Lift with a gondola, a restaurant and meeting space at the summit of the mountain, a telescope and observatory at the summit, ziplines that begin at the summit and terminate at the base, an improved access road to the summit of the mountain, a new mountain bike park, additional hiking trails, and expansion of ski area boundaries.
SKMR President Max C. Chapman, Jr. is excited about the potential of Snow King Mountain. “Snow King has the best view of the Tetons, the town of Jackson, and the Elk Refuge, and these improvements will make that view accessible year-round to everyone,” Chapman said. “We’re making a significant investment in this mountain and in our community because we strongly believe that Snow King can provide a world-class resort experience and be a thriving economic force right here in the heart of Jackson.”
SKMR hopes to begin development on Phase Two in two to three years following a one to two-year long environmental impact assessment.
The SE (Snow Engineering) Group has been engaged as environmental consultants and resort planners to assist with this process.
As outlined in the Staff Report for the July 20th Town Council meeting where SKMR will present the planning request, this process “shall not involve any liability of any kind for the Town or Town owned lands and shall not involve any cost of any kind for the Town and the approval of this action shall not be deemed or construed to be approval of any facility or any Master Plan or Forest Service Master Plan involving town lands.”
SKMR intends to hold a public meeting in early Autumn 2015 to present the results of this planning process and to allow for public feedback. Following public feedback and further refinement, SKMR will present the final plan for this phase of development to the Town of Jackson for approval.
SKMR is committed to good stewardship of Snow King Mountain, creating a world-class resort, and to providing a lively year-round activity hub for the Town of Jackson. Since 2014 when the MDP was approved, SKMR has successfully implemented a $3mm snowmaking infrastructure improvement on the mountain, and has invested an additional $10mm for summer improvements including a replacement of the Rafferty Lift, a new mountain coaster, a new treetop adventure park, a new base lodge and new ski school facilities. SKMR continues to work on trail improvement and re-vegetation of trails.
