At about 10:17am directly above Jackson, Wyoming on Monday, August 21st, 2017 a total solar eclipse will begin. The first 1 hour and 18 minutes or so will just be a partial eclipse. Then, at approximately 11:35am the Moon will pass directly in front of the Sun blocking out the majority of the Sun’s light. For the following 2 minutes and several seconds–the exact duration depends on your exact location–the Sun’s corona will be visible. After that the Sun will be partially eclipsed until about 1pm Mountain Standard Time.
Snow King Mountain Scenic Lift Access:
Snow King will be offering a limited number of Big King Passes for the day of the eclipse that will provide access to the Scenic Lift and the Summit of the mountain. Aug 21 will be a black out day for all other season pass holders for scenic lift access. Big King Passes will provide a lift ride to the summit for the best view of the eclipse in Jackson Hole, and then can be used the entire day for unlimited Cowboy Coaster Rides, Alpine Slide Rides, Bungee Trampoline access, miniature golf, and a trip through the Treetop Adventure Course. Passes can be purchased in advance online and will sell out prior to the eclipse.
Wyoming Stargazing Fundraiser Event:
Wyoming Stargazing will be hosting two special fundraising events during the weekend of the Total Solar Eclipse on the Summit of Snow King Mountain. The first event will take place on the evening of Saturday, August 19th before the eclipse. The second event will be on the morning of the eclipse Monday, August 21st.
We have some amazing presenters lined-up for the events including NASA astronaut Scott Altman, astrobiologist and author David Grinspoon, and supernovae expert Prof. Douglas Leonard. We’ll have catered food from Rendezvous Bistro, drinks, music, and of course lots and lots of telescopes for stargazing on Saturday night and for watching the eclipse on Monday. The summit of Snow King is an amazing stargazing location! We’ll show you Jupiter, Saturn, star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies like you’ve never seen them before. The Summit also provides one of the best and most accessible vantage points in Jackson Hole to watch the eclipse because you’ll get to see the shadow of the Moon racing across the entire valley just before and after the moments of totality. Tickets for these two events also include chairlift rides up and down the mountain, exclusive parking at the base of Snow King Mountain or a shuttle ride from your hotel, as well as rides on the Alpine Slide and the Mountain Coaster!
Because of logistical and space limitations we are capping each event at 250 people. The first 170 tickets for the event on Monday have already been snatched up by two large groups visiting Jackson for the eclipse. The remaining tickets are on sale now!
